Superfoods to exfoliate your skin at home

January is our skin detox month, and truly beautiful skin starts with cleansing and exfoliation – after food!

Exfoliation is another way of deep cleaning the skin after 35+. It helps to remove dead skin cells and allows the skin to absorb any skincare products better. Exfoliation also helps to tackle some skin problems:

  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Improves skin color
  • Reduces imperfections of the skin
  • Improves skin cell turnover
  • Cleans pores
  • Speeds up regeneration
  • Reduces brown pigments and spots

How often should you exfoliate your skin?

Exfoliation is recommended once a week.  Make sure to apply lotion and moisturizer after. It’s also ideal to use a mask after exfoliation, as all ingredients can have better results.

The same way our body needs superfood boosts, our skin can use the same super beneficial products from our kitchen to create amazing, fresh and effective exfoliation.

There are 2 types of exfoliators: physical particles and fruit acids.

You can use them both separately or together, it’s up to you. They are as effective as many exfoliators you can purchase in shops, but sometimes even more effective. Plus, you get aromatherapy as the  cherry on the top.

Superfoods recommended to use for exfoliation at home:

  • All berries
  • Lemons
  • Oranges
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Apples
  • Pineapple
  • Cinnamon
  • Honey
  • Coffee grinds
  • Oat flour (homemade from oats)
  • Linseed (crashed in a coffee grinder at home)
  • Himalayan salt
  • Raw cacao powder
  • Essential oils of your choice (in very small dosages)
  • Olive oil (to add to exfoliators)
  • Brown sugar, epsom salt and clays.

How do you mix these ingredients to create the best homemade superfood exfoliator?

When you mix your own exfoliator, add a bit of your fruits of choice and mash them.  Use only the juice and add some exfoliating particles and honey and voila! You have the superfood for your skin.

My favorite recipe  is very simple:

  • 1 tsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 1 tsp of coffee grinds

Mix together and apply on your face or the whole body. Keep for 5 to 10 minutes, massage and rinse off.

Natural skincare is easy: do not over complicate it. Take ingredients you love, mix and enjoy!

Disclaimer!

DO NOT USE EXFOLIATOR IF:

  • Your skin is red or inflamed
  • If you have itching skin
  • If you have pustules or white pimples or work around them
  • If your skin is cracked

To glowing skin,

Zane
