Treasures from the ocean, grown with care
📍 Home: the south of France and the waters of Tenerife
INCI: Cylindrotheca Fusiformis Extract · Plankton Extract
The ocean is where all life began, and its tiniest plants are some of the most remarkable. Microalgae and plankton are microscopic, but they’ve learned to survive strong sun, salt and changing seas, and they’re full of the protective compounds that help them do it.
Blue microalgae (Cylindrotheca fusiformis) — When I started formulating, 15 years ago, there were very few natural actives with real laboratory results behind them. This sustainably grown blue microalgae was one of the first, and its results were fantastic. It’s grown in the south of France in special glass greenhouses called photobioreactors, a nature-friendly way of growing that saves water and protects the sea. It’s naturally rich in antioxidant carotenoids such as fucoxanthin, omega-3 fatty acids, amino acids and plant sterols. In the supplier’s studies, it helped visibly reduce the look of wrinkles.
Marine plankton extracts — We use two. One comes from the clear waters off Tenerife and was chosen for brightening: in clinical testing on this ingredient, women aged 38 to 53 saw dark spots become visibly lighter and smaller in 8 weeks. The other is a calming microalgae extract, chosen to help stressed skin look more rested and even.
Why we chose them: to help skin look smoother, brighter, more even and radiant, using actives that are grown in a way that respects the ocean they come from.
Find them in:
- Glowing Skin Day Cream: blue microalgae for smoother-looking skin every morning
- Golden Collagen Elixir: blue microalgae plus a calming plankton extract
- Overnight Brightening Face Mask: the Tenerife plankton extract, for a brighter, more even-looking tone
Feed it from within 🌊
The ocean feeds us too. Oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel are rich in omega-3, and edible seaweeds like nori and wakame add minerals to your plate. Try a sprinkle of seaweed flakes over salads, soups or rice.
