Murumuru (Astrocaryum murumuru) is an Amazon palm so covered in long, sharp spines, on its trunk, leaves and even its fruit stalks, that harvesting it takes real skill and patience. Its fruits and seeds have long been an important food for local people. The seed kernels give a pale, smooth butter that is solid in the jar but melts the moment it touches your skin.
Where ours comes from: like all our Amazon butters, our murumuru comes directly from a small Brazilian company that works hand in hand with the local harvesters and supports them fairly. It’s wild-harvested and unrefined.
What’s in it: naturally rich in lauric, myristic and oleic (omega-9) fatty acids, plus vitamin A.
Why we chose it: murumuru melts in quickly and leaves a soft, silky, breathable layer that helps skin hold on to its moisture without feeling heavy. It’s gentle enough for the delicate skin around the eyes.
