Grown on our family farm in Latvia

📍 Home: Latvia, my mother’s farm

The oak bark in our extract comes from my mother’s farm in Latvia. We never cut a living tree. My mum, sometimes with my brother’s help, gathers bark from fallen branches, and a small amount goes a long way. We then make the extract by hand in our own lab.

In Latvia, the oak (Quercus robur) is a sacred tree. It’s the symbol of strength and endurance, and the tree of Pērkons, the god of thunder. On Midsummer’s Eve, Jāņi, our biggest celebration of the year, men still wear crowns of oak leaves, while women wear flower crowns. Some Latvian oaks are many centuries old and are protected as national treasures.

What’s in the bark: naturally rich in tannins, plus flavonoids and other plant polyphenols.

Why we chose it: oak bark is one of nature’s classic astringents. We add it to help skin look smoother and more refined, with less visible pores, and to give the skin a fresh, toned feel.

A plant for your skin 🌳

Oak bark is very rich in tannins, so it isn’t an everyday tea. If you’d like to feed your skin from within, try our mum’s nettle tea or a golden cup of linden flower tea.
